Kaya sizzles in season opener with 4-0 rout of Army

By Ivan Saldajeno

O.J. Porteria made an early case for the Best Striker award as Kaya opened its UFL season with a 4-0 win against Army at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila City.

Porteria scored a brace, making the first and the last goals, to lead Kaya's offensive charge, which sparked late in the match. He even threatened for a hat trick.

Porteria put his club on the board in the 37th minute as he drilled in a penalty goal.

However, Army's defense held Kaya to only one decent attempt, a Chris Greatwich free kick that hit the post, in a span of 39 minutes.

Greatwich finally scored after he followed up Porteria's miss to put Kaya up, 2-0.

Porteria still had another crack at the goal as he found himself one-on-one with Army's goalkeeper. The goalie, however, grabbed the ball from Porteria as he surged forward.

Porteria made up for the failed attempt by assisting on Louis Clark's goal seconds later.

Porteria finally scored again for Kaya in the 82nd minute as he found a crack in Army's backline and drilled the win-sealing goal.
