UAAP may push through with postponed UP-La Salle baseball tiff

MANILA--A postponed UAAP baseball match between UP and La Salle may be rescheduled to Sunday.

The officials decided to stop the match in the fifth inning with the Fighting Maroons leading the Green Batters, 4-3, because the floodlights at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium did not function well.

The game started later than the expected 3 p.m. start as the earlier game last Sunday between NU and Adamson went 14 innings before NU beat Adamson, 7-6.

Both UP and La Salle are fighting for the last spot in the best-of-three finals with Ateneo waiting.

However, for the replay to push through, the Fighting Maroons, currently at 4-4, must beat the Bulldogs and hope that the Green Batters, running second at 6-2, will fall to the Blue Eagles.

A Maroons' loss or a Batters' win will hand the latter the other finals seat, and the replay will not push through.

If UP and Ateneo go on to win, UP will then need to beat La Salle to force another match for the last finals berth.

This was not the only time that concerns about the floodlights at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex were raised.

Two weeks ago, the floodlights at the football stadium also malfunctioned during a UFL match between Global and Pachanga. The officials decided to push through with the match after a ten-minute delay despite not fully restoring the light.
