Arellano dethrones Perpetual as NCAA cheerleading champ

PASAY--As a fitting finale to a breakthrough season, Arellano, through its Chief Squad, bagged the NCAA Cheerleading Competition championship Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena, snapping the Perpetual Help PerpSquad's title streak in the said competition at five.

A near-perfect routine gave the Chief Squad 405.5 points, beating the PerpSquad by just a full point for the title. The CSB Pep Squad ranked third with 359.5 points to round up the podium finishers.

Arellano walked away with PHP100 thousand, while Perpetual Help and CSB won PHP75 thousand and PHP50 thousand, respectively.

JRU finished fourth with 353 points, while EAC placed fifth with 344.5 points. Letran was in sixth with 332 points, while Lyceum was in seventh with 322 points.

Mapua, a known team to beat in the competition, crashed to eighth place with 301 points, while San Beda settled for ninth with 291 points. San Sebastian did not field in its pep squad in this year's edition.

The Chief Squad's cheerdance plum capped a remarkable season for Arellano that was highlighted by the men's basketball team's entry to the NCAA Finals and the women's volleyball team's successful title run.
