TOOWOOMBA--An Australian boxer passed away after conceding to his Filipino foe in their ten-round fight last weekend.
James O'Shea confirmed on Monday that Brayd Smith died after two days of induced coma following a unanimous decision loss to John Vincent Moralde for the WBC-Asian Boxing Council continental featherweight championship on Saturday at Smith's hometown in Toowoomba.
Reports said that Smith, the son of renowned Australian boxing trainer and promoter Brendon, still had a post-fight chat with Moralde but later passed out upon returning to his dressing room.
Brayd Smith was immediately rushed to the Toowoomba Hospital before the attending physicians suggested to bring him to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Queensland.
On Monday, the family of Smith decided to turn off his life support.
His fans poured out support online and offline after finding out about the incident.
