QUEZON CITY--Ahead of the All-Star break, the PBA Commissioner's Cup has seen some surprises, one of them being San Miguel at the cellar after a successful championship run in the Philippine Cup.

The Beermen, however, got a badly needed win on Tuesday against another surprising team, the surging Barako Bull Energy.

San Miguel bucked an early injury to Junemar Fajardo to down Barako, 102-91, to keep its flickering playoff hopes alive at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Fajardo tweaked his ankle in the first quarter and never returned, putting his Sunday night All-Star appearance in Puerto Princesa City in doubt.

AZ Reid and Arwind Santos, however, took over and led the Beermen to a double-digit lead at halftime after a slow start. They were also able to contain the Energy, who threatened to come back in the third quarter, in the end.

Reid had 34 points and 16 rebounds, while Santos added 22 markers and 13 boards for San Miguel, which needs to win its remaining three outings and hope for other clubs to falter in the end.

Sol Alabi and J.C Intal each scored 25 points for Barako Bull, which fell to 4-4 after a hot start. Alabi grabbed 24 rebounds.
