Belga fined PHP70K for incidents in Ginebra game; Almazan, Peña sanctioned too

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Beau Belga drew flak from Ginebra fans, especially two guys who threw bottles at him in Rain Or Shine's game against Ginebra at the Cuneta Astrodome on Sunday night, and even some other PBA fans for his actions in the said game.

Commissioner Chito Salud did not like them too.

Salud slapped Belga with a hefty PHP70 thousand fine for separate incidents in the Sunday match.

Belga first received three sanctions of PHP10 thousand each "for deliberately planting his forearm on Mark Caguioa as they were falling after a rebound in the 5:26 mark of the fourth quarter... for intentionally landing on Eman Monfort with his knees after a foul he committed on Monfort during the 3:40 mark of the fourth quarter... [and] for throwing an elbow that grazed the face of Chris Ellis during the 1:32 mark of the fourth quarter."

While all the three said elbowing incidents were elevated into flagrant foul penalty one status, Belga luckily escaped suspension.

Meanwhile, Belga and Raymond Almazan were each fined PHP40 thousand "for taunting, provoking and scoffing at the fans with the use of a dirty finger and other offensive verbal and physical gestures." The commissioner called the said incidents unsportsmanlike.

Salud then reminded the players to maintain professional decorum even if they are getting heckled by fans, which he called the "lifeblood of the league" and let the league and venue officials be in control.

He also called on the referees to be more vigilant in their officiating.

Ginebra's Dorian Peña also did not escape fines as he was sanctioned PHP10 thousand for his flagrant foul penalty one on Almazan.
