PASIG--Ten high school basketball teams will clash in the juniors division of the 2015 FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
And these ten make up two "groups of death".
To add spice to this year's high school preseason wars, Tournament Director Joey Guillermo revealed on Thursday during a meeting with the participating teams' representatives that the juniors division will only comprise of the top five teams from last year's NCAA and UAAP tournaments.
Guillermo explained, "We want to make the juniors division more competitive. Last year, we allowed all the teams to join, but many games resulted in lopsided wins. So we only brought in the top five teams this time."
The reigning NCAA champions San Beda Red Cubs and the UAAP winners Ateneo Blue Eaglets will headline Group A together with the La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers, the Letran Squires, and the JRU Light Bombers.
The NU Bullpups and the Malayan Red Robins, the runners-up in the UAAP and the NCAA respectively, will join the vastly improved Adamson Baby Falcons, FEU-FERN Baby Tamaraws, and the La Salle Greenhills Greenies in Group B.
Teams will play a single round robin intra-group elimination round with the top two teams from each group clinching a spot in the knockout crossover semifinals.
The winners of the semifinal matches will play in a one-game titular showdown, while the other two semifinalists will face off in a battle for third.
Games will be played every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 10 a.m.
