Global falls to Yadanarbon in AFC Cup

MANDALAY--Global suffered a 0-2 defeat to Myanmar-based Yadanarbon to close out their campaign in the first round of the AFC Cup group stages at the Bahtoo Stadium Wednesday night.

Global played tremendous defense as Jun Badelic appeared to keep another clean sheet in the first half of his second game at the starting goalkeeper position.

But Maximin Djawa opened the scoring for Yadanarbon as he found the net in the 58th minute after finding a gap in Global's back line.

Substitute Win Htay Kyaw sealed the win with a fulltime whistle-beating goal that sealed Yadanarbon's first win in the tournament after two straight losses.

Yadanarbon now occupies third place with three points, dropping Global, which played with only 13 men due to injuries and the suspension to Amani Aguinaldo, to the cellar.

Global now needs to have an impressive second round to stay in contention for a spot in the knockout stages.

The club, however, will have some help from the fans as it will play two matches at home.
