PARAÑAQUE--In a rare moment in Philippine television history, the three broadcasting giants will come together to broadcast the much-anticipated showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather on May 3.

Representatives of GMA, ABSCBN, and TV5 confirmed on Thursday at the Solaire Grand Ballroom that they teamed up to air the Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown in partnership with broadcast producer Solar Entertainment.

The Kapuso Network, which previously owned the exclusive rights to air the Pacquiao fights on free TV, waived the said right, paving the way for the Kapamilya and Kapatid stations to step in.

It was later revealed that Pacquiao, who has a management contract with GMA, pleaded his mother station to give up the exclusive right. Pacquiao himself graced the announcement press conference through Skype.

This is not the first time GMA, ABSCBN, and TV5 converged for a certain event as they simultaneously broadcast a tribute concert for Dolphy in 2012.

GMA remains the exclusive radio broadcaster of the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight with the live blow-by-blow coverage to be aired simultaneously in all Radio GMA stations nationwide.

TV5, on the other hand, will have a pay-per-view broadcast of the fight that will be available on all mobile devices.

Solar, which will air the fight live on its cable TV network Solar Sports, will also provide a pay-per-view screening. Solar won the Philippine broadcasting production right for US$10 million.
