MANILA--Nick O'Donnell is the remaining goalkeeper who has yet to give up a goal this UFL season, and Kaya coach Adam Reekie believed his top goalie barely passed an acid test against Global last week.
"We just got a bit of luck, and we rode our luck. Nick played well, but sometimes you need that luck to go with you," Reekie said.
He added, "If you don't have a solid keeper and a back four,... it's hard to win games," telling that Kaya's defenders led by Masa Omura and Aly Borromeo also played a key role in Kaya's huge win against its archrival.
Kaya's defense will be put to a big test again as the club guns for the league leadership anew against Ceres, another squad with offensive firepower, Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
"Ceres are a good team," Reekie described his team's next opponent, which drubbed the squad in the Smart-PFF Club Championship last January.
Ceres stepped on the gas early in its last two matches, something Coach Ali Go said was a huge change in the club's gameplan following its failed AFC Cup bid against Maziya.
The Kaya-Ceres match, which will start at 8 p.m., will cap a doubleheader that will also feature a 5 p.m. showdown between Manila Jeepney and Pachanga.
