MANILA--Army played tight defense against Stallion for most of the match and appeared to finally score a point in the UFL season Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Emmanuel Mbata spoiled Army's upset bid.
Mbata scored the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute to put Stallion up, and Jordan Mintah sealed the club's 2-0 win with another goal two minutes into the added time.
Mbata received a pass from Simone Rota and headed the ball to the goal to stun Army, which almost got a breakthrough earlier in the second half as Woo Song's shot hit the post.
Five minutes later, Mintah got close to the goal and drilled the insurance score for Stallion.
Stallion took the provisional lead in the league table after scoring its 15th point on five wins and one loss.
