Manabat sizzles anew as Petron wins in Daquis' debut

By Ric Arlos

BIÑAN--Rachel Anne Daquis joined Petron for the first time this PSL season, but it was Dindin Manabat who once again sizzled as the team downed Foton, 25-18, 26-24, 20-25, 25-19, in their Thursday night All-Filipino Conference showdown at the Alonte Sports Center.

Manabat once again top scored for the Blaze Spikers with a game-high 23 points.

Unlike Saturday's win against Philips, however, the Blaze Spikers had to stave off a gritty Lady Tornadoes who also made an impression earlier in that day.

After a smooth first set win, Petron trailed Foton, 19-22, late in the second period before scoring seven of the set's last nine points to take it.

The Lady Tornadoes then took the third set behind Patty Orendain, Angeli Araneta, and Nicole Tiamzon.

Petron then showed its championship poise as it took the fourth set and eventually the match in fashion.

In her season debut with the Blaze Spikers, who are now the solo leaders with a 2-0 card, Daquis finished with 11 points.

Tiamzon had 22 points, while Orendain added 21 for the Lady Tornadoes.
