QUEZON CITY--Entering Wednesday night, Talk 'n Text set its sights on erasing the bitter memories of the previous conference, where the team got swept by San Miguel in the semifinals.
Talk 'n Text got vengeance in style.
The Tropang Texters pulled away in the second half to depose a surprisingly struggling Beermen side, 113-93, in the nightcap of the PBA Commissioner's Cup games at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Talk 'n Text immediately raced to a 26-9 advantage in the first quarter.
San Miguel, however, crawled back to take the lead, 32-30, early in the second quarter.
The Tropang Texters regained the edge midway through the period and began the rout later in the second to join the Purefoods Star Hotshots on top of the team standings at 7-3.
Ivan Johnson scored 41 points and 19 rebounds, while Matt Rosser added a career-high 22 for Talk 'n Text.
AZ Reid led San Miguel, which had to play without Arwind Santos the rest of the game, with 32 markers.
Santos scored seven points before prematurely leaving the game to take his mother, who passed out while he was playing, to the hospital.
Now at 3-7, the Beermen, who saw their much needed two-game winning streak snapped, are now on the verge of an early exit in the conference just after they won the Philippine Cup in January.
