MANILA--Global got a big boost leading to its AFC Cup rematch against Yadanarbon with a 10-1 rout of Manila Jeepney in their UFL showdown at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.
Mark Hartmann led Global's attack with an "accidental" hat trick highlighted by a funny moment late in the first half.
In the 39th minute, Hartmann was supposed to give the ball to Jeepney as part of a fair play. However, Michael Menzi failed to secure the ball from the "long pass", and Hartmann's good deed became a goal, providing laughs among the crowd.
While there is no rule stating that the club which accidentally scored a goal off a fair play should concede one for its opponent, Global let Jeepney get the goal back through Arnel Amita a minute later.
Still, Global made an onslaught in the second half through Misagh Bahadoran, Renato Gonzalez, Hika Minigeshi, and Renato Gonzalez.
Global moved to provisional fourth place with 16 points and a +22 goal difference.
