QUEZON CITY--Coach Yeng Guiao is not new to expressing his rants about the officiating of a certain Rain Or Shine game in the PBA.
On Sunday night, however, he claimed Referee Rey Yante "was just inventing calls".
Guiao hit out at Yante for what the coach thought was an erroneous technical foul call slapped on him during the first quarter of the Elasto Painters' game against the Meralco Bolts.
Yante called the technical foul on Guiao when the referee thought the fiery mentor had some choice words for him and his fellow referees when he adjudged Beau Belga with a foul against Josh Davis.
Guiao, however, denied that he used profane words against the officials.
“Twice now, Referee Yante has said that I used profane language, and I deny that because I don’t know where he got that,” the coach said with an additional reference to the Elasto Painters' quarterfinal game against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, where the referee also called a technical foul on him.
Guiao further said about Yante, “He’s a bare-faced liar. Sinungaling siya.... hindi niya nakita or narinig and that could be borne out. Because you cannot invent calls.”
It was not the only time Guiao complained at Yante about the calls in the game as both the coach and the referee had two more feisty conversations during the second half.
Guiao added that he and the team management will request to the PBA not to allow Yante officiate future Rain Or Shine matches.
