By Ivan Saldajeno

SAN JUAN, MM--JRU staved off a late rally fom FEU to pull a stunning 57-55 win in the nightcap of the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup opening day festivities at the FilOil Flying V Arena on Saturday night.

Despite playing without stars Philip Paniamogan and Michael Mabulac, who have already graduated, the Heavy Bombers built a 14-point cushion, 50-36, early in the fourth quarter.

The lead was enough to withstand a late rally from the Mike Tolomia-led Tamaraws, who still came to within one, 55-56, with 17.6 seconds left.

FEU got a crack at the win when Abdel Poutouochi missed two free throws in the ensuing play, but Achie Iñigo botched his team's final play when he missed a wide-open layup and lost the ball with 3.1 seconds left.

Paolo Pontejos led JRU with 19 points in his return after taking a year off.

Raymar Jose, on the other hand, had a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds for FEU.
