PASAY--Philips stormed back from 1-2 down to defeat Cignal in five sets, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10, in their PLDT Home Ultera-Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference match at the Cuneta Astrodome on Thursday night.
After a relatively smooth first set win by the Lady Slammers, the cellar-dwelling HD Spikers took the next two frames to threaten an upset.
But the Lady Slammers regained control in Set 4 and forced the deciding period. They led for most of the fifth set.
Jeanette Panaga tried to carry the scoring for Cignal late in Set 5, but Philips spoiled the bid as Myla Pablo, Michelle Gumabao, and even Rossan Fajardo took over late in the frame.
Pablo led the Lady Slammers, who moved to solo third place with a 4-4 record, with 22 points, while Gumabao added 21. Fajardo, who was fresh from a 29- point outburst in a Shakey's V-League game earlier Thursday, still finished with three markers, all in Set 5.
Panaga scored 15 points for the HD Spikers, who further dropped to 1-6.
Philips remained a half-game back of Shopinas, which took down Mane 'n Tail in an earlier Super Liga action on Thursday.
