EAC repulses late CSB rally for first win

By Ivan Saldajeno

SAN JUAN, MM—EAC banked on a huge second quarter and held off a late run by CSB to take a 70-64 win in their FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at the FilOil Flying V Arena on Saturday.

The Generals outscored the Blazers, 25-12, in the second quarter to go up, 33-26, at the half. They stretched the lead to double digits by the third quarter.

CSB still had one final push as Jonathan Grey scored six straight points to trim the gap to four, 68-64, with 55 seconds left, but Addum Mbang, despite a poor free throw shooting the entire afternoon, made the most-mattered charities to seal the win for EAC.

Mbang had 18 points, 17 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal, while Sid Onwubere also made a double-double of 11 points and ten rebounds for the Generals.

Fons Saavedra tallied 13 points, five rebounds, and a steal for the Blazers, who despite making 46 percent of their field goals committed 28 turnovers.
