PASAY—Frankie Edgar moved closer to a shot at the UFC featherweight title after a unanimous decision win against Urijah Faber in the main event of the first UFC Philippines fight card at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.

The number two-ranked featherweight contender engaged in an exchange of strikes with the number three-ranked bantamweight contender before relying on his ground game later in the five-round match to get the nod of the three judges.

The judges gave identical 50-45 scorecards to Edgar, who could next face the winner of the world title fight between defending champion Jose Aldo and third-ranked featherweight contender Conor McGregor. Both Aldo and McGregor will face off at UFC 189 on July 12 in Las Vegas.
