La Salle beats UE but loses Montalbo to knee injury

SAN JUAN, MM--La Salle handed UE its first loss in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup on Saturday night with a 96-82 win at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

It, however, came with a price as Kib Montalbo injured his right knee in the second quarter of the match.

Montalbo bumped knees with a UE player and fell awkwardly early in the period with both teams tied at 36 each. Team officials initially treated Montalbo inside the dugout before deciding to rush him to the hospital later in the night.

Still, the Green Archers made up for his loss as Andrei Caracut, Prince Rivero, Josh Torralba and Jason Perkins led a third quarter charge to pull away for good against the surprisingly streaking Red Warriors.

The four players finished in double figures with Caracut leading the pack with 21 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the three-point area. Overall, La Salle made 12 triples.

Edson Batiller led UE, which previously won four straight matches, with 18 markers.
