SAN JUAN, MM—Last year's NCAA cellar-dweller Mapua pulled a huge upset against reigning CESAFI champion SWU with an 81-73 victory in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at the FilOil Flying V Arena on Friday.
The Cardinals outscored the debuting Cobras, 20-10, in the second quarter to lead, 40-29, at the half and held on to the advantage in the second half for their first win in the tournament after four straight losses.
Josan Nimes led Mapua with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and a block, while C.J. Isit added 16 points, five rebounds, five assists, and a steal. Allwell Oraeme tallied nine points, 17 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Mac-Mac Tallo had a game-high 21 points, two rebounds, three assists, and a steal, while Daryl Goloran contributed seven points and ten rebounds for SWU.
