QUEZON CITY--Junemar Fajardo once again showed his prowess over fellow Cebuano beanpole Greg Slaughter as San Miguel downed Ginebra, 100-85, in their PBA Governors' Cup showdown on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Fajardo outscored and outrebounded Slaughter, who made his conference debut after sitting out with an injury, as the Beermen pulled away in the last 7:44 of the match to keep in step with tournament leaders Barako Bull Energy at 5-2.
Fajardo had ten points and 20 rebounds, while Slaughter only made six points and six rebounds. Slaughter added three assists and a block, while Fajardo tallied a steal.
AZ Reid led San Miguel with 27 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and a steal, while Chris Ross barely missed a triple-double after making 19 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists with two steals. All the San Miguel starters scored in double figures.
Orlando Johnson scored 22 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, dished six steals, and made a steal for Ginebra, which played for the first time after winning in Dubai last week. Johnson, however, went 6-of-22 from the field.
Meanwhile, Gin Kings coach Frankie Lim opted to sit out Asian import Sanchir Tungalag anew. Tungalag is set to be replaced by Korean standout Kim Ji-Wan.
