Third quarter blitz pushes San Beda past UST

SAN JUAN, MM—San Beda used a third quarter blitz to hold off UST, 74-64, in the nightcap of the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup games on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

The Red Lions started on a high note, scoring 21 points in the first quarter, but the Growling Tigers rallied in the second period to lead, 32-31, before a Radge Tongco runner at the buzzer put the Lions up anew, 33-32, at the half.

San Beda picked up from Tongco's buzzer-beater as the team outscored UST, 28-16, in the third period to open a 61-48 advantage and never looked back.

Arth Dela Cruz made 15 points, converting all but one of his eight shots, along with five rebounds for the Red Lions, who are still unbeaten at 2-0.

The Growling Tigers' loss put to naught Ed Daquioag's hot night as he scored 29 points, 20 in the first half.
