With second half blitz, NU deposes Adamson

SAN JUAN, MM—NU pulled away in the last 17 minutes to down Adamson, 65-52, in the nightcap of the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup games on Friday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

A 10-0 run midway in the third quarter capped by back-to-back triples from Jjay Alejandro sparked the Bulldogs' second half rally to build a double-digit lead, 46-36, with 4:13 left in the period. They later extended the gap to 12, 57-45, with 4:19 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Soaring Falcons had one last gasp as a triple from Matthew Aquino and a three-point play from J.D. Tungcab cut the lead to six, 57-51, with 3:19 to go.

But the Bulldogs closed the game on an 8-1 run to get their fourth win in five outings, bouncing back from an overtime loss to FEU in a UAAP finals rematch last Saturday.

Issa Gaye scored 13 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and made four blocks for NU, which had 52 boards overall.

Nico Capote led Adamson, which dropped to its third srraight loss after a season-opening win, with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Providing an anchor defensively, Matthew Aquino made seven blocks overall.
