PANABO--Despite losing a 21-point lead, Alaska had enough fuel left in its tank to walk away victorious against San Miguel, 82-77, in the lone PBA Governors' Cup match on Saturday night at the Panabo Multi-Purpose Tourism, Sports, and Cultural Center.

Leading 55-34 early in the third quarter, the Aces found their lead slowly chipped away by the Beermen as the gap became three, 67-64, with 9:47 the final period.

Back-to-back jumpers from Jvee Casio and Sonny Thoss momentarily stretched the advantage to seven, 71-64, but three triples, including a four-point play by Ronald Tubid, highlighted a 13-3 run that gave San Miguel the lead, 77-74, with 2:47 remaining.

Romeo Travis saved the day for Alaska as his back-to-back baskets ignited the game-ending 8-0 run capped by free throws from Casio.

Travis tallied 32 points, ten rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and two steals, while Calvin Abueva added 12 markers, six boards, and a dime for the Aces, who stole first place from the Beermen.

Despite top-scoring for the Beermen, Arizona Reid was limited to 17 points on 7-of-24 shooting as their eight-game winning streak following back-to-back losses to start the conference came to an end.
