SAN JUAN, MM—Earlier this summer in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup, Perpetual Help's Bright Akhuetie torched CSB for 35 points, 20 rebounds, and four blocks.
On Friday, he did it again—a better one this time.
Akhuetie performed what could be the greatest single-player performance in modern NCAA history in the Altas' 77-69 win over the Blazers at the FilOil Flying V Arena, the same place where he went 20-20.
The 6-6 Nigerian tallied 44 points, the most by any player since JRU's John Wilson fired 48 on Aug. 26, 2009, 19 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals in a game where Perpetual Help pulled away in the fourth quarter.
With CSB keeping in step with the Perps, the latter went on a tear in the final period, rallying to open a 17-point cushion and never looked back.
Reigning MVP Scottie Thompson also provided a spark in the Altas' second straight win in as many games with a triple-double of 14 markers, 12 boards, and ten dimes along with three steals and a block.
J.R. Ongteco tallied a season-high 23 points with six rebounds.
