Ceres nears UFL title with huge win against Kaya

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Entering Sunday night, Ceres needed seven points to take home the UFL championship.

At the final whistle, Ceres is now within one.

Ceres moved to within a draw from securing the league title with a 2-0 win against Kaya at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Ceres needed 39 minutes before Bienve Marañon tallied the first goal as he struck the ball off a nice feed from just the baseline.

Adrian Gallardo doubled for Ceres in the 58th minute as he took advantage of a wrong head clearance by Masa Omura and found himself all alone against Nick O'Donnell and drill the shot to the net.

Ceres, now with 37 points with three matches left, can clinch the silverware as early as Saturday, when it faces cellar-dwelling Socceroo.
