MANILA--Ceres officially took the UFL championship on Saturday night after defeating Socceroo, 6-0, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Needing only a draw to win the plum, Ceres went for the kill on Saturday, and it got some unexpected "help".

The Bacolod-based club got its first goal from an unlikely source as Socceroo's Arnel Casil failed to clear the ball out in the 41st minute and instead sent it past teammate Baba Sampana's net.

Nate Burkey made Ceres' first earned strike and second overall after converting a penalty with a few seconds left in the first half. Burkey made it a brace for him after opening the second half with a 49th minute goal.

Orman Okunaiya hit one of his own at the hour mark, while Marwin Angeles made it 5-0 at the 75th minute.

Jeffrey Christaens sealed the title-clinching win for Ceres with an 81st minute attack.

Now with 40 points with two matches to spare, Ceres won the title as Global, Kaya, and Loyola can only go up to 37.

This is the fifth title for Ceres since the club began making waves in Manila-based club football tournaments in 2012.
