SAN JUAN, MM—Jio Jalalon went for a triple-double as Arellano cruised to its second straight victory with a 92-80 trouncing of EAC at the resumption of the NCAA games at the FilOil Flying V Arena on Tuesday.
Jalalon made 12 points, ten rebounds, and 15 assists as the Chiefs showed their playoff form after a prolonged break despite a late Generals run.
Coming off an 11-day layoff after their supposed Friday game against the CSB Blazers was moved to Aug. 14 due to Typhoon Falcon, the Chiefs played brilliant basketball in the first half, opening a 51-33 advantage after the first 20 minutes. They would stretch the lead to 20, 64-44, in the third period.
But Sidney Onwubere and Addum Mbang carried the fight for the Generals for the rest of the second half, teaming up to cut the gap to as close as nine, 83-74, with 3:49 left in the game.
Zach Nicholls delivered the dagger for Arellano as he made an open layup and a triple to bring the lead back to double digits, while Jalalon capped his triple-double game with a beautiful dish to Nico Bangga for the icing on the cake.
Nicholls topped the Chiefs in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
Onwubere sizzled for 26 points, ten rebounds, two assists, and five steals for the Generals, who fell to 0-3.
