PASAY--San Miguel capped a typhoon-dreaded week with a storm of its own against Alaska.
Despite having only one day to prepare, the Beermen had enough strength to clobber a supposedly well-rested Aces squad, 108-78, in Game 1 of the PBA Governors' Cup Finals at the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday night.
San Miguel immediately opened a double-digit advantage in the first quarter, extending it to 19, 31-12, late in the period.
Despite Alaska slowing the reigning Philippine Cup champion down in the second and the third, the team rolled over in the fourth frame to clinch the 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven affair.
AZ Reid led the way for the Beermen with 32 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, while Junemar Fajardo added 18 markers, 17 boards, and three blocks.
Romeo Travis struggled the entire game, only making 14 points on 6-of-18 shooting for the Aces.
