MANILA--Rain Or Shine guard Chris Tiu doused cold water on rumors swirling online that he will hang his basketball gears for good.

In an official statement made on Thursday, Tiu, whose three-year rookie contract expired after the Elasto Painters' campaign ended in a Governors' Cup semifinals exit, said that he will not retire yet.

However, Tiu, who also hosts GMA's science-oriented show I-Bilib, a barangay councilman, and a businessman as well, admitted that he thought about leaving the league because of the said commitments.

"I initially intended to play in the PBA for just one contract period, but now I'm reconsidering because I never thought I would still enjoy playing basketball this much at this level," the former Ateneo King Eagle said.

Tiu also stated that he and the Rain Or Shine management have yet to start talks about a new contract.

He revealed, "I cannot just assume that they will keep me. We haven't spoken yet."

Tiu, however, hinted that he wants to stay with the E-Painters, giving positive feedback to his teammates, the management, and Coach Yeng Guiao.

Rumors of retirement surfaced after Tiu posted a series of thanksgiving tweets the morning after his team got eliminated by San Miguel in the semifinals.

Tiu made his statement available to the public through his blog.
