SEATTLE--Evil Geniuses became the first DOTA 2 team to win The International title on home soil after knocking out China-based CDEC, 3-1, in the final at the Key Arena on Sunday (Philippine Time).

The American team actually got back at the Chinese squad after the latter relegated the former to the lower bracket in their previous meeting on Saturday (Philippine Time).

EG, which beat LGD, 2-0, in the wildcard playoff earlier Sunday to make the championship game, drew first blood in the opener of the five-game series as Sumail Hassan bounced back from a poor start and took over.

CDEC equalized after staving off a late EG rally when the team got the better of a pivotal clash near the Roshan area.

But it was all-EG in the final two games to take the championship win and a whopping US$6.5 million in cash.

The win capped a relatively unpredictable tournament, its fifth edition, that saw previous champions Invictus, Natus Vincere, and Newbee getting early cuts as well as pre-tournament favorite Secret.
