PASAY--Gilligan's won the first ever PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge women's division title after taking a 19-21, 21-14, 15-11 victory against the Foton Tornadoes at The Sands by the Bay on Saturday.

The pair of Danika Gendrauli and Jane Diaz bounced back from a close defeat in the first set to trounce the duo of Patty Orendain and Fiona Ceballos for the plum.

The Sisig Queens showed might in the second set, overwhelming the Tornadoes to force a third set.

Gilligan's appeared to be in control after taking a 14-10 lead, but Gendrauli conceded a Foton Tornadoes point off a service error to keep the latter in the match.

However, she bounced back by finding an open area near the net to spike the Diaz set for the clincher.

Foton, which fielded in two teams for the said tournament, had a sizzling start in the previous All-Filipino Conference only to slow down in the end and settled for a fourth-place finish.

The franchise, however, assured of a finals slot in the mid-season conference when both the Tornadoes and Hurricanes clashed in the semifinals last week.
