MANILA--Twelve picks down, and projected first round pick Roi Sumang is still on the board in the PBA Draft at Robinson's Place Manila on Sunday.
The UE guard was not drafted by any team at the end of the first round as NLEX and Alaska made surprise picks in their respective turns at the draft.
After going for former D-League standout Garvo Lanete at sixth, the Road Warriors chose Glenn Khobuntin as the tenth overall pick of the draft. Khobuntin's draft right is rumored to be part of their trade package to the Mahindra Enforcers in the proposed three-team deal that could send Troy Rosario's draft right to the Talk 'n Text Tropang Texters.
On the other hand, the Aces also passed on Sumang and went for Kevin Racal at 11th overall. None of the mock drafts posted online had the Letran guard in the first round.
In a related development, The pro-Ginebra crowd at Robinson's Place Manila went wild after the club took reigning NCAA MVP and SEA Games gold medalist Scottie Thompson as the fifth pick.
Chosen before him was UAAP standout Chris Newsome, Meralco's fourth overall pick. Meralco went for Baser Amer at seventh.
The rest of the first rounders include Norbert Torres (Star), Arth Dela Cruz (Blackwater), and Josan Nimes (Rain Or Shine)
