SINGAPORE--Global's whirlwind postseason continued on Thursday night as Geylang escaped with a 1-0 win in the opener of their RHB Singapore Cup quarterfinal series at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Jozef Kaplan scored the lone goal of the match as it was appeared to be heading to a goalless draw.

Both clubs failed to hit the mark in the first 86 minutes as Global survived an early barrage by Geylang and the latter held its own when the former began to get to form later.

Kaplan, however, proved to be the hero for Geylang as he slotted the ball past Roland Sadia at the right bottom corner of the goal post.

The loss added some more frustration to Global, which was hit by the disqualification by the UFL for the remainder of the season-ending UFL Cup following the eligibility issue with Satoshi Otomo.

With the match considered as a home game for Global, the UFL club needs to score a win with at least two goals to secure a spot in the semifinals come the return leg at Geylang's home turf at the Besok Stadium on Sunday night.
