MANILA--Kelly Williams got a sigh of relief on Wednesday after an ACL tear was ruled out.
However, he had to sit out Gilas' FIBA Asia Championship campaign.
MRI readings showed that Williams only suffered an MCL strain following a slip during Gilas' first official practice on Monday night.
But with his recuperation likely to be completed in two months, the 6-7 forward, a member of the original Gilas squad in 2011, will miss the FIBA Asia Championship starting on Sept. 23. He, however, will be cleared once the PBA season commences on Oct. 18.
The latest injury bug further shrunk the number of healthy players for the national team with Junemar Fajardo nursing a foot injury, L.A. Tenorio having some health concerns of his own, and Marc Pingris not yet returning from a family-related trip to France.
