Azkals stay at 125th in new FIFA rankings

MANILA--Ahead of two FIFA-sanctioned matches beginning later in the night against Maldives, the Philippine Azkals retained its position in the world rankings as the new update was released on Thursday.

The Azkals stayed at 125th position in the world rankings devoting a full month off. They also remain as the top Southeast Asian team.

The Azkals, however, moved up to 15th in the AFC rankings as North Korea dropped two spots in the world rankings to 126th overall and 16th in Asia.

Uzbekistan, which the Azkals will face on Tuesday night, maintained its position in the 76th place overall and sixth in Asia.

Meanwhile, England, the birthplace of football, found itself on the verge of crashing out of the top ten as the team dropped two spots to number ten in the world.

Chile, which last month was at tenth, moved two notches up to eighth place, while Wales stayed at ninth. The top seven teams led by Argentina also maintained their previous positions.

Iran, which stayed as the top Asian nation, even moved up a notch and barged to the top 40.

Fiji was the biggest gainer after moving 17 places up to 181st overall, while Seychelles suffered the biggest dip after losing seven spots to 192nd overall.
