MANILA--Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson expressed sadness about missing the cut for the Gilas Pilipinas lineup that will play in the FIBA Asia Championship in Changsha later this month.
In an official statement on Wednesday, the NBA All-Rookie First Team member said, "I'm very disappointed I won't be able to play with the Gilas National Team during the FIBA Asia Championship from September 23 to October 3."
Despite the cut, Clarkson expressed optimism on the final 12-man team.

"The 12 men selected to represent the Philippines in this 2015 FIBA Asia Championship have earned the right... I will cheer them onto Gold," he continued.
He thanked the fans, his advisors, and everyone who helped him make an effort to have him cleared for the said tournament.
At the end of his statement, Clarkson told Gilas, "Let's Get To Rio [De Janeiro]!"
