MANILA--Ed Daquioag's surname sounds like that of Ginebra star Mark Caguioa, so some scribes and fans call him the UST King Tiger "The Spark" as well.
He lived to his moniker in the opening week of UAAP Season 78.
Daquioag's heroics in UST's 3-0 start earned him the Accel-Quantum XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week award.
The combo guard, now in his fourth year with the Growling Tigers, averaged 24.3 points a game in the opening week, scoring at least 27 in two of those outings.
His clutch heroics also became a factor as he made 12 fourth quarter points against FEU on Wednesday and 17 fourth quarter points against UP on Sunday.
The Tamaraws and the Fighting Maroons also had nominees for the said weekly plum as Mike Tolomia, Mac Belo, Jett Manuel, and Paul Desiderio were also considered. Even Daquioag's teammate Kevin Ferrer also made the shortlist.
