QUEZON CITY--FEU saw Adamson putting up a huge upset bid in the second half but still held on for a 64-60 victory in a top-versus-bottom UAAP affair at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday night.
The Soaring Falcons came alive in the final 20 minutes, finally taking the lead from the Tamaraws midway in the third quarter. The Falcons would extend the lead to five until a 12-4 run put the Tams ahead, 48-45, entering the fourth.
Adamson again went on a tear in the opening moments of the final period as an 11-2 run put the team up, 56-50, with 5:50 remaining.
But FEU had a 7-0 run to take the lead anew, 57-56, with 3:25 remaining in the game.
Joseph Nalos scored on a difficult layup to give the Soaring Falcons their last lead at 58-57, but Mike Tolomia converted a triple to put the Tams up, 60-58, with 44 seconds remaining.
Nalos failed to convert on an equalizer but got his own miss. He, however, dished out a bad pass, leading to free throws by Roger Pogoy for a 62-58 count with 23 seconds left.
Papi Sarr kept the game interesting after making two free throws to cut the lead to two with ten seconds to go.
But Mac Belo sealed the deal with two charities of his own even as Carlo Escalambre missed a triple before the buzzer.
Russel Escoto led the Tamaraws, who are now on top of the team standings at 5-1, with 11 points and two rebounds, while Tolomia and Belo each added ten markers.
FEU survived a 26-point, 22-rebound performance from Sarr as no other Adamson player finished in double figures.
