CHANGSHA--Gilas Pilipinas overwhelmed Kuwait, 110-64, at the CWSC Dayun Arena on Friday to finish its campaign in the first round of the FIBA Asia Championship on a bright note.

After engaging in a close encounter with the Kuwaitis in the first 1:30 of the game, the Filipinos pulled away for good in the remaining moments of the first quarter and easily cruised to their second straight win in the tournament after a shock loss to Palestine.

After struggling in his first two games, Terrence Romeo went for a game-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting off the bench, while Calvin Abueva and J.C. Intal also came off the bench to add ten markers each for Gilas, which can still finish in first place of Group B if Palestine loses to Hong Kong in a game scheduled later Friday. All the three teams are assured of slots in the second round of the tournament.

Abdul-Rahman Alshamari led Kuwait, which got shut out in the first round, with 15 markers.
