PASAY--Putting on a 33-10 output in the final canto, Far Eastern University beat University of the East, 91-81 in UAAP Season 78 at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.

Mac Belo put 12 points of his 24 in the fourth quarter alone to help the Tamaraws in a comeback victory together with eight boards, five dimes, and two denials.

The Tamaraws started the game on an 11-2 run halfway done in the first, but the Warriors answered with a 27-10 run after an early timeout by Head Coach Derrick Pumaren with Paul Varilla capping the run with a buzzer beater three for the Reds to end the first with a 29-21 lead.

In the second quarter, Warriors continued to pedal as they held the Tamaraws scoreless for almost half of the quarter.

With 5:06 left in the quarter, Mike Tolomia finally broke the silence for the Tamaraws as he put up a basket, but Philip Manalang quickly answered with a three.

Before the 1st half ended, the Tamaraws managed to build an 8-0 run, but that was not enough to get the lead in the end of the quarter.

Despite having 17 turnovers in the first half, Belo’s team managed to handle the ball well in the second half.

The captain put his team on his back as he hit a trey to tie the ball game, and with another basket, FEU finally got the lead, 77-75. Mike Tolomia also joined the crusade with a mid-range jumper to put FEU in an early 20-4 run.

With 3:03 left in the game, Pumaren called his last time for the UE hoping for a run that his team registered earlier, but that was not the case anymore as Belo’s corner three sealed the deal for the Tamaraws and UE continued to struggle from the field, shooting only five out of 18 attempts in the final quarter.

Mike Tolomia added 15 points, while Monbert Arong and Raymar Jose with 14 and 13 apiece. For UE, Edson Batiller led the way with 18.

FEU improved its record to 4-1 and is now on top of the standings, while UE slid to 2-3.
