BARCELONA--Adding up to a recent string of injuries in FC Barcelona, Star Player Lionel Messi injures his knee during their La Liga match against UD Las Palmas in the Nou Camp on Saturday.

Messi tweaked his knee as he tried to cut through the right wing, only to have his shot blocked by Las Palmas player Pablo Bigas, just a few minutes into the match.

He initially received treatment on the pitch and tried to play on, only to be substituted on the 10th minute by Munir el Haddadi after being deemd unable to continue the match.

Tests done to him at Creu Blanca hospital in Barcelona revealed that he suffered a tear in the internal collateral ligament of his knee and that he will need 7-8 weeks to recover from his injury.

With this injury, Messi is expected to miss the next two months of the football calendar, including La Liga fixtures against Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano, Champions League home match against Bayer Leverkusen, as well as Argentina’s world cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.
