MANILA--Defending girls champion National University subdued University of Santo Tomas, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23, to seize the solo lead over the weekend in the UAAP Season 78 high school volleyball tournament at the Adamson Gym.

With reigning MVP Faith Nisperos leading the way, the Bullpups overcame a first set loss to extend their unbeaten run to four games on Sunday, foiling the Junior Tigresses bid in getting some sort of revenge on their Finals loss last season.

NU on Saturday had an easier time in beating UP Integrated School, 25-20, 25-12, 25-12.

UST, which earlier defeated Far Eastern University-Diliman, 25-12, 25-18, 25-18, dropped to 3-1 alongside De La Salle-Zobel, which posted twin victories over the weekend, in second place.

The Junior Lady Spikers nipped University of the East, 25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 25-16, 15-11, and downed UPIS, 25-13, 25-9, 25-11, the following day.

The Junior Lady Warriors fell to 2-2 in fourth spot, while the Baby Tamaraws are in fifth place with a 2-3 card.

In the boys division, NU is also leading with a 4-0 card after beating La Salle-Zobel, 25-18, 29-27, 25-19, and UPIS, 25-5, 25-13, 25-19, in succession.

Reigning 11-time champion UE turned back UPIS, 25-11, 25-5, 25-10, and Ateneo, 25-20, 25-18, 25-13, to join UST in second place at 3-1.

The Tiger Cubs lost to the Baby Tamaraws, 23-25, 23-25, 23-25, to end a three-game winning streak.
