QUEZON CITY--Reigning MVP Afril Bernardino delivered a double-double effort as defending champion National University overwhelmed University of Santo Tomas, 71-45, to stretch its winning run to 19 games on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 78 women's basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Bernardino had 12 points and 12 rebounds and dished out six assists as the Lady Bulldogs overcame a sluggish first half to improve to 3-0.
The lopsided loss ended the Tigresses' two-game winning streak.
Adamson University later joined NU on top with a 57-49 victory over University of the East.
Trixie Antiquiera, Gemma Miranda and Risa Paig contributed 11 points apiece for NU, which led by as much as 26 in the second half.
De La Salle joined UST at 2-1 with a 54-45 win over Far Eastern University, with Ana Castillo scoring 15 of her 19 points from beyond the arc.
Danica Jose had 23 points and 17 rebounds as Ateneo barged into the win column after two straight losses with a 56-43 win over University of the Philippines.
The Lady Tamaraws remained winless in three outings under new coach Bert Flores, joining the Lady Maroons at the bottom of the standings.
