QUEZON CITY--SBP President Manny Pangilinan believes the time has come for the Philippines to make a return to the basketball competition of the Summer Olympics.

"It's been a long while since we've been to the Olympics. I think it's about time," Pangilinan told a group of sportswriters after Gilas Pilipinas began its Master Gameface MVP Cup campaign on a high note.

Through the efforts of Pangilinan, the MVP Cup, the last pocket tournament of the national team before it heads to Changsha for the FIBA Asia Championship a week from Wednesday, was organized.

"We prepare them as best as we can given the limited time," he continued.

Pangilinan also lauded the chemistry Gilas had in the recent matches including in the Jones Cup where the team finished second.

"What I like about the team especially tonight is the chemistry. They genuinely like and respect each other, which is an excellent development," bared the chief backer of Gilas.

The champion of the FIBA Asia Championship will gain an outright entry to the Olympics, while the other semifinalists will play in a qualifying tournament that will determine the last three teams going to Rio De Janeiro next year.
