QUEZON CITY--The men's team's win at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday made it a double for the UST basketball program against that of UP as the UST women's team also downed the distaff side of UP in their own clash, 58-52, at the Blue Eagle Gym.
The Tigresses appeared to be going to an easy cruise as they started the match, which was played in the morning, on an 8-0 run.
But the Lady Maroons got into the groove later in the first half, outscoring the Tigresses, 22-9, the rest of the first 20 minutes to take a 22-17 lead.
UST returned to the game by going on a 21-11 third period to take a 38-33 advantage entering the fourth.
UP stayed in the match, forcing two deadlocks in the final period, the last at 48-all with 2:51 remaining in the game.
The Tigresses finished the game on a 10-4 run in the final 2:40 to clinch the victory.
Despite only making two of 13 field goals, Candice Magladuyo finished with 12 points as she went 6-of-6 from the free throw line along with two rebounds, five assists, and one steal for UST.
Bea Daez had a game-high 20 markers with eight caroms, three dimes, and a swipe for UP.
In the other games, NU bludgeoned Ateneo, 70-36, and Adamson needed overtime to trounce, 69-64, to join UST at the top of the standings at 2-0.
Also, La Salle went down the wire before hacking out a 63-59 victory over UE to force a tie for fourth place at 1-1.
