PASAY--Last month, the college basketball world found itself in a wild NCAA Final Four race where six teams were on track of ending up tied at the top of the team standings.

Now, a similar situation is brewing in the other top-flight college hoops wars.

NU's victory over La Salle on Wednesday night somewhat complicated the race for the fourth and the final semifinal slot in the UAAP ahead of a week-long Halloween break.

Coach Eric Altamirano believes that the potential "Kagulo sa UAAP" scenario could even favor the defending champion.

"I'm hoping for [the wild race for fourth to happen] for the sake of us," Altamirano said to the press right after the Bulldogs' victory over the Green Archers.

The win pulled NU up to 5-7, a half-game behind La Salle, which went down to 5-6, for fourth place.

Also within reach are UP and UE, which will enter the hiatus at 3-7 each.

For Altamirano, the break will be pivotal for the Bulldogs.

"We're going to prepare for UP and then FEU. Magkasunod yun. That will be our main focus because we need to hurdle those two games," the NU mentor continued.

After the Halloween break, the four teams in the wildcard race will swing back to action in crucial games that could either keep them in the race or not.

The Red Warriors will battle the UST Growling Tigers on Nov. 4 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum before heading back to the said venue on Nov. 7 to face the Adamson Soaring Falcons.

The Fighting Maroons, on the other hand, will battle the Ateneo Blue Eagles also on Nov. 4 before tackling the Bulldogs on Nov. 8.

The Green Archers will cross paths anew with archrivals Blue Eagles also on Nov. 8.
