MANILA--Despite failing to secure an outright Olympic berth, Gilas Pilipinas still found itself on the positive side of the movers for this year's FIBA rankings.
In the latest update on Thursday, Gilas, after a silver medal finish in the FIBA Asia Championship, went up by three places to 28th overall, leapfrogging South Korea and Jordan, which both suffered early eliminations.
Gilas is now the third best team in Asia as per the FIBA rankings, just below Iran (17th) and newly-crowned champion China (14th).
The United States and Spain maintained their first and second places respectively, while Lithuania, inspired by its own silver medal run in the Eurobasket, moved up to third place, pushing Argentina, who was stunned by Mexico in the FIBA Americas final, down to fourth.
