PASAY—When the NU Pep Squad had two major falls in its UAAP Cheerdance Competition performance on Saturday, many thought the UP Pep Squad and the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe, which both had relatively flawless pieces, will battle it out for an unprecedented ninth title.

NU Pep defied the odds.

NU Pep won its third consecutive cheerdance plum in front of 25,388 people at the Mall of Asia Arena.

NU topped all the technical categories to get 668 points.

Salinggawi, which had the highest dance score, finished second with 651.5 points, an improvement from the third place finish last year.

UP Pep, the only team without a deduction, settled for the bronze with 610.5 points.

The FEU Cheering Squad fell short anew in getting a podium finish as it finished fourth with 583.5 points, just a half point ahead of the UE Pep Squad.

Rounding the rankings, the De La Salle Animo Squad was sixth with 538.5, the Adamson Pep Squad was seventh with 513.5, and the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion was eighth with 412.
